This is a simple but comfortable 18 bedroom lodge situated by the worlds largest Macaw Claylick on the uninhabited frontier of the Tambopata National Reserve and the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. It was established to aid the protection of these magnificent birds and has a long-term research project to ensure the survival of their populations. It is unrivalled in its access to pristine Amazonian forests, having no neighbours, and due to its distance from human populations requires a stopover in Refugio Amazonas. Reserva Amazonica

On the banks of Madre de Dios River, in the heart of a 40-square-mile private ecological reserve deep in the Amazon rainforest stands the rustically elegant Reserva Amazonica lodge. All 34 of the jungle camp’s thatched cabañas are illuminated by lantern light the beds shrouded in clouds of muslin. Cozy hammocks swing on porches. The sounds of the jungle act as an evening lullaby. A web of tree-trunk sidewalks join the buildings and eight kilometers (six miles) of trails wind through the jungle that surrounds the lodge.
