The Amazon River is home to more fish species than in the Atlantic Ocean, it creates a healthy ecosystem for 4,000 bird species! And many more animals and it originates in Peru’s Amazon.

In this Amazon River and Canopy Walk Tour, discover the enchanting flora & fauna found close to the Amazon River, as well as the communities along its shores. To complete your exploration, climb and walk through a canopy bridge at 35m (115ft) above from the ground; nearly 500m (1/3 of a mile) long with thrilling views of the Amazon Rainforest very few have experienced.

 

Amazon River & Canopy Walk Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Amazon Tree

Exploring the reserve surrounding the lodge

Upon arrival from your flight Lima – Iquitos, you will be welcomed at the airport and given a brief orientation of the city, followed by a short ride to the Explorama Dock, to begin your Amazon tour; 25 miles trip down the spectacular Amazon River on your way to the CeibaTops Lodge. On arrival, you can refresh yourself in a hot water bath in your comfortable air conditioned private room before you go on your afternoon hike Ceiba Tree Tops.

You will be hiking through a beautiful primary rainforest surrounded by many large trees festooned with epiphytes.

Back in the lodge, enjoy dinner. Later your guide will take you on a short walk to a small lake where caimans can be easily spotted in the evening as well as the insects and frogs that produce the sounds so typical of the Amazon Rainforest during the night.

Day 2

Start the day taking a boat ride to the small village of Yagua in the morning;  on the way you’ll spot playful gorgeous gray and pink river dolphins, swimming along. The tour guide will tell you about the Yagua’s difficult history like many of the Amazon people. The young Yaguas will demonstrate how the Elder Yaguas still use the blowgun tecnique for hunting and show you their handmade crafts as well.

Later after lunch, in the afternoon you’ll be going on a walking excursion to the neighboring town of Indiana. Founded by a Franciscan mission, nowadays Indiana has grown into relatively large town, yet at the shores of the Amazon River, exposes them constantly to flooding dangers.

Day 3

Early in the morning you’ll be travelling by boat to a narrow crossing connecting the Amazon and the Napo River to continue your trip by boat to ExplorNapo Lodge for a succulent breakfast. Next you’ll go on a hike to the marvelous Canopy Walkway extending over 500 meters (one- third of a mile) along the tree tops of the Amazon Rainforest, An exceptional experience at 35 meters (115 feet) above the ground.

After lunch, visit the “ReNuPeRu” Ethnobotanical Garden where over 240 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local chaman (medicine man). He’ll explain the nature of Amazonian healing power and the uses of some of the plants.

Return to Ceiba Tops Lodge in time to enjoy a swim in the pool or a restful nap on the hammocks before dinner.

Day 4

Today you can choose how to spend your morning, you can go on a walking excursion, take a boat ride or relax at the lodge by the pool until departure time.

In the afternoon, transfer service to Iquitos and to the airport for your flight back to Lima (book your flight on your own).

  • Due to the ever-changing weather of the rainforest, day-to-day activities may vary due to local conditions.
  • We recommend you get a Yellow Fever shot at least 10 days before your trip.
  • You can leave all unnecessary luggage in the Lodge’s office in Iquitos.
  • Pack breathable long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and avoid using bright colors.
  • Wear waterproof shoes or boots with a rubber heel.
  • Pack a raincoat and waterproof clothes.
  • Pack binoculars, bug repellant, sunblock, a hat, sunglasses and a small day backpack or pouch to carry your camera or video camera.
