Peru Amazon Tour Overview

In the middle of Peru’s Amazon, in the Tambopata Reserve is the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion Lodge, a perfect place for nature-lovers enthusiasts searching to experience the thrill of exploring the Amazon Rainforest in a short period of time.

35 minutes from the lodge, you will visit a Botanical Garden with over 200 different species, learn about the wonders and benefits of these rare plants, including the medicinal uses. Enjoy a 30-minute canoe trip on a small lake, encountering turtles, giant river otters, sun grebes, nightjars and herons. Take a tour of Madre de Dios Region history exhibit organized by the National Geographic Society and so much more.

Peru Amazon Tour Itinerary


Take a morning flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado (departing at 08:05 and arriving at 10:45). At your arrival, you will be transferred to the Inkaterra Lounge (visit the Butterfly House), the lodge staff will welcome you and give you the necessary information for a pleasant stay. Finally, you’ll travel on the Madre de Dios River by boat to Hacienda Concepción (approximately 25 minutes).

Take a walk along the Concepción Trails, after a delicious lunch. These trails are within the Hacienda limits, here you will learn to distinguish primary from secondary forests, the impact of human activity and their importance.

Partake on the Twilight River Excursion in the Madre de Dios River at dusk, witness the beautiful hues changing on the horizon as the night approaches. You will learn about the river’s fascinating ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animal behavior, and delight in the southern constellations clear in the sky. Later, have a nice dinner at Casa Grande.

Overnight at Hacienda Concepción


In the morning, have a good breakfast (buffet), and head on for a long trek into the Tambopata National Reserve to Lake Sandoval, a mirror-like oxbow lake, home to the endangered giant river otter, the blue and yellow Macaw, Red Howler monkey, black Caiman, and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the Paiche.

In the early afternoon, after lunch, dare to try the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk. Sail to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center and go up a 98-ft tower (30 m.) walk across the 8 hanging bridges that connect the treetops. Delight on the breathtaking views and spot white-throated, woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys and the three-toed sloths.

Once on the ground walk through the 200-meter wooden bridge over the aguajales swamps. You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem.

In the evening join in the Hidden Rainforest Excursion, find some more of the nocturnal animals while listening nature sounds, impossible to hear during daylight. Finish your evening with a pleasant dinner.

Overnight at Hacienda Concepción


You’ll travel back to Puerto Maldonado on a boat. Arrive at the Inkaterra Lounge, you can visit the fabulous Butterfly House while you wait for your transfer service. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight from Puerto Maldonado to Lima (departing at 11:25 and arriving at 14:15).
