Located in the Peru Amazon, the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion Lodge seeks nature-loving enthusiasts who come to the region in search of a memorable and authentic experience!  This lodge located in Tambopata, on the banks of the Madre de Dios River will immerse you in the natural wonders and the indigenous cultures of Peru.

Visit a Botanical Garden with over 200 different species of rainforest plants within a 35-minute ride upriver. Learn from the in-depth explanations about the processing, uses and benefits of these traditional indigenous plants, including fascinating native medicinal uses. Enjoy a 30-minute canoe trip on a small lake and watch for wildlife – turtles, giant river otters, sun grebes, nightjars and herons. Take a tour of the exhibits, designed by the National Geographic Society, that tell the story of the remarkable Madre de Dios region.  It is all part of this amazing nature experience.



Take a morning flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado (departing at 08:05 and arriving at 10:45). At your arrival, you will be transferred to the Inkaterra Lounge (butterfly house), where the staff of the lodge will welcome you and give you the necessary information for your stay. Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to Hacienda Concepción (approximately 25 minutes).

After lunch, take a walk through the Concepción Trails, the inside property nature trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and secondary rainforests, their components, uses, transformations by human beings, and their relevance to the world.

At dusk, take the Twilight River Excursion by outboard motorized canoe in the Madre de Dios River. During this activity, you will learn about the river’s ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animal behavior, and the southern constellations. In the evening enjoy a nice dinner in the dining room of the Casa Grande.

In the morning, after a nutritious buffet breakfast, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas).

After lunch, experience the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk. Ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center, where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Go up one of the two 98-ft towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m.). Enjoy the breathtaking views and spot white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani).

After descending, keep feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the aguajales swamps. You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem.

At night, participate in the Hidden Rainforest Excursion, where you will explore the nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen for nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world. Finish your day with a pleasant dinner.

Transfer Boat – Hacienda Concepción to Puerto Maldonado. Arrive at the Inkaterra Lounge (Butterfly House) where you will wait for your flight back home or to your next destination.  You can take this opportunity to visit the beautiful butterfly house and learn about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects, bred in a laboratory. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight from Puerto Maldonado to Lima (departing at 11:25 and arriving at 14:15).
