Duration: 12 Days
Destinations: Arequipa – Colca Valley – Puno – Lake Titicaca – Cusco – Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu
This Peru Vacation Package is an amazing travel experience through the southern part of Peru. You will first visit the City of Arequipa (the “White City”). It is the second most populous city after Lima, and thanks to its remarkable industrial activity, it is ranked as the second most industrialized city in the country. Its historic center was declared a “Cultural Heritage”, as well as historic and monumental heritage by UNESCO.
You will then visit the Colca Canyon which is located at the northeast corner of Arequipa. Colca comes from the words Collaguas and Cabanas, two ethnic groups that lived along the Colca River. It is also the second deepest canyon in the world with 4150 meters in depth, after Cotahuasi Canyon.
The trip continues to Puno, located in the southeast of the country. It was the territory of the ancient Tiwanaku Culture in the middle of the first millennium. It is believed that the origin of the cultivated potato is located in this part of the Altiplano. Puno has many natural attractions among which is the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, located at an altitude of 3810 meters. There are also the floating islands (artificial islands made from dried Totora) made by, most notably, Los Uros who are living descendants of the ancient Uru Chipaya with a lineage back to pre-Hispanic times.
This great adventure also includes the City of Cusco, a multicultural place where past and present live in harmony. You will learn about the ancient culture of the Incas by visiting their main constructions such as Sacsayhuaman, Koricancha, Kenko, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. Sacsayhuaman is built in such a way that a single piece of paper will not fit between the stones. It is noted for an extensive system of underground passages which connect the fortress to other Inca ruins within Cusco.
This Peru Vacation Package continues with a visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, an area from Pisac to Ollantaytambo. Located along the Urubamba River, it was an important agricultural production center. You will be able to admire the monumental stone fortress of Ollantaytambo and share with the inhabitants their language and customs. Meanwhile, in the artisan market of Pisac, you will witness great textile work and old trade habits.
This wonderful experience ends with a trip to the “Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu, a unique, magical and mystical place. You will be amazed by the magnificence of this Inca legacy. The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, was hidden between the Andes and the Amazon Basin until 1911, when the American explorer Hiram Bingham discovered it. In the Quechua lenguage, Machu Picchu means old mountain. Located at the top of a mountain, Machu Picchu is a colosal masterpieace of arquitecture and engineering, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
